Economy: Many factory systems that was based on business and manufacturing that mostly hired immigrants from Germany and Ireland. Farming was too a part of the Northern economy. Most crops they grew were corn, oats, barely, wheat, and garden vegetables. Transportation: The North had very established and developed due to manufacturing and populated cities. Road systems, canals, and steamboats were used. Canals and steamboats were a necessity because they transported goods and easy to develop. Society: The Northern society was fast-paced. They had urban centers and job opportunities that attracted immigrants from other countries. Free blacks populated the North due to the abolishment of slavery, The Factories had Free Labor that available to all, though the free blacks were segregated from the whites, so they didn't have the opportunities to participate in Free Labor. |
SouthGeography: Most of the region has soil that is rich and fertile. The South had a lot of hot summers and mild winters.

The planation systems needs a slave labor, so the plantation can survive. Transportation: The Transportation systems are less advanced. There were no canals, few roads, and water transportation was the main method of transporting goods. The Mississippi River was the most traveled waterway and mainly slow rivers were navigated in steam-boats. Society: Most of the population are slaves and had no legal rights, were closely watched, and had very limited rights of their own. There is a small number of free blacks that lived as craftsmen and farmers, but had even-less freedoms than the North. Much of the urban centers was rural and mostly populated by farmers who owned few or no slaves. All plantation owners held a majority of the economic, political, and social power. |
