Reconstruction: The South was rebuilding itself economically, socially, and politically after the Civil War
Impeach: To be removed from office
13th Amendment: Freed all of the blacks from slavery and slave labor.
14th Amendment: It gave the right of citizenship to all of the free blacks. It also granted that everyone born in the U.S or born in a foreign country may be complete citizens of America
15th Amendment: This amendment also gave all African American men the right to vote, but still didn't grant this right to women all across the country, including African American women.
Jim Crow laws: Most of the South was denying the equal freedoms of blacks that were proven to be legal due to the new amendments added, so other citizens treated blacks unfairly. The South believed in the Jim Crow laws. These laws supported the segregation of public restrooms, restaurants, water fountains, and other places.

Facts:
1. After fighting in the Civil War, many of their homes and farms were destroyed. Since all slaves were freed, their businesses were running low on sources and needs more help with the plantation/farm than before. They hoped the reconstruction would be over very soon to focus on fixing their farms and plantations
2. Scalawags and Carpetbaggers will threaten your way of life. They had to beware of them and had to be humane to the ex-slaves.
3. State’s rights and the return of order to a society torn by war are were their main concern.

Carpetbagger:
Facts:
1. Traveled to the South after war seeking economic gains in the southern Reconstruction.They mostly purchase properties for taxes from farms and giving loans to freedmen. The Freedmen recognize their importance in their lives.
2. Their luggage were made out of carpet.
3. Work with Scalawags who support the Radical Republicans
Quote: "It is hard to walk to the South. There are so many problems and arguments between them opposite skin colors."
Freedman:
Facts:
1. gained their rights from the 13, 14, and the 15th amendment
2. Still weren't treated by the South and segregated from the Jim Crow's Laws.
3. the ex-Confederate still offers some problem to the freedmen because of the black codes and property rights. These men could have them arrested and thrown into jail. They needed to be very careful around them and distance them from them.
Quote: "My whole life was about work, ropes, and chains, now it's full of education, rights, and freedoms. Although I'm not completely free... Those laws segregate me from the society and it is not fair. When will we be truly free?"
Women:
Facts:
1. They struggled with the double burden of keeping their homestead and farm running without the help of the men. Women also had to support the soldiers at the battlefront. Their day was spent working the fields, sewing, cooking, binding, shucking and loading grain for what seemed an eternity. As the war draws to an end, the burden became greater.
2. The decision of voting rights has everyone discussing the freedmen. Little mention is given to women’s rights. The women wanted to scream, but that isn’t any way for a lady to act. Discuss the hardships of war, they looked forward to your man’s return, and the possibility of voter’s rights.
3. Both North and South, regardless of race were, all found in the same position as the war began. Most of the adults left behind were young and middle-aged women.
